Social Skills Training

The youth attend structured classes and groups designed to develop new perspectives on forming relationships and building social skills. Based on a psycho-educational model, the training stresses the importance of social responsibility and accountability. The following topics are covered in the social skills training:

  • Understanding and Expressing Feelings
  • Building Self-Esteem

  • Substance Abuse Intervention
  • Personal and Social Responsibility

ROPES COURSE

The program maintains its own Ropes Course, which is an elaborate obstacle course designed to challenge youth to meet and overcome self-imposed limitations. Each element of the course is designed to be physically challenging and to promote trust building, problem solving, risk taking, communications, goal setting, and teamwork. In a safe and exhilarating environment, youth face their fears while receiving support and encouragement from peers and staff.
